In Czech sources, Moritz Bachner's first name is always spelt Mořic. As he was Jewish and came from Poland, it is more likely that his name was Moritz. He moved to Ostrava in the 90s of the 19th century. He opened a small department stores' selling kitchenware and tools. His wife Amalie and some of his children also worked in the business. His wife Amalie died in the Treblinka concentration camp in 1942.
